Hello everyone… It is a good day in Seattle, Washington! The sun is shining and the birds are chirping! Hope everyone else is as excited for the weekend as I am. 🙂
Well last Sunday when I had my first triathlon, it was an indoor, low key, tri – Only 3 of us actually competed. All three of us are friends and train together – so it was actually pretty fun. A good way to get my feet wet.
I was pretty impressed by how much I kept going and didn’t stop on the swim.
GOAL FOR THIS WEEK: Work on getting to the point where I can continue to swim and not stop. If I need to take a break, I should just roll onto my back and float for a minute. Stopping in a pool is OK – but in open water, I won’t really have that option, so I better start conditioning myself now.
Coach is out of town for two weeks and I seriously want to impress her with progress when she gets back!
The bike was easy – It was on a spin bike for only 30 minutes. I could do that in my sleep, honestly. No hills and my body was feeling good after warming up in the pool.
THEN CAME THE RUN! The little, baby, 1.58 mile run.. First, I need to get use to the transition from bike to run. I am pretty sure my legs will always feel like lead, but I need to practice the feeling a bit more. This run was uphill the first half. I was right behind one my friends who is super speedy… she typically runs say a 6:30 minute mile…. I think I started wayyyy to fast because I was way closer to her then I should have been. I finally settled into a more comfortable pace but was pretty winded.
Unfortunately, since I am a distance runner – I am usually still trying to find my grove within 1.5 miles. So the run portion I wasn’t the proudest of… ALTHOUGH I am probably just being more hard on myself because running is my main sport.
Overall – SUPER excited to continue down this path and get some outdoor tri’s under my belt during the summer!
This coming Sunday I have the Mt. Si Relay race. It is a 58 mile relay race with some trail and some road. I am on a 9 person team and I am running a 6ish mile leg.
I am really happy to be able to participate in an event like this! It makes me happy to have a group of friends that are active! Still pretty new for me… but overall proud of myself for stepping outside my comfort zone and making friends that support the lifestyle I chose for myself!
I hope everyone is having a great week!
